Sockets, extensions and new circuits in Doncaster & Sheffield

Houses never have enough sockets in the right places, and modern life keeps raising the bar — home offices, kitchen gadgets, garden rooms. Adding sockets and circuits is bread-and-butter work, and doing it tidily is what separates a good job from a bodge someone finds behind the sofa in ten years.

We add sockets, wire kitchens and extensions, and run power to sheds and garden offices across Doncaster and Sheffield — for homeowners, and for builders who want the electrics on their job done well, with the paperwork to match.

What's included

From one extra double socket to the full first fix on an extension:

Work carried out in line with applicable UK wiring regulations and good industry practice.

  • Extra sockets — added, moved, or doubled up from singles
  • USB and switched sockets where they're genuinely useful
  • Kitchen wiring: appliance circuits, sockets above the worktop, under-cabinet lighting
  • Extension and renovation wiring, first fix and second fix
  • Power to garden buildings — sheds, workshops and garden offices on their own circuit

Our process

Sized to the job — a couple of sockets shouldn't feel like a procurement exercise:

  • A look at the job — for small work, photos and a description usually do it; extensions get a walk-round with the plans.
  • Fixed quote — priced per point where that suits, so adding one more socket while we're there is a known cost, not a renegotiation.
  • The work — cable routes agreed before anything is chased or lifted.
  • Paperwork — where the job adds a new circuit, an Electrical Installation Certificate is issued on completion.
  • Tidy-up — dust sheets, hoover, waste away.

How pricing works

What moves the price when you're adding sockets or circuits:

  • How many points, and whether they extend an existing circuit or need a new one
  • Wall and floor construction — chasing solid walls takes longer than dropping cables through stud walls
  • Cable routes — the distance back to the consumer unit matters more than people expect
  • Outdoor work: trenching and armoured cable for garden buildings
  • The finish — surface-run is quickest, chased-in and made good takes longer

Working with your builder

Extensions and renovations run best when the electrician is booked at the same time as the builder, not found in a hurry when the plasterer is due on Monday. We coordinate first fix around the build programme and come back for second fix when the walls are done.

Frequently asked questions

Can you add a socket without wrecking the decoration?

Sometimes. Dropping a cable inside a stud wall can be nearly invisible; chasing a solid, freshly decorated wall can't be. We'll set out the tidy options — including surface-run alternatives — before you decide. Plenty of Doncaster's older terraces have solid walls, so it comes up a lot.

Do I need a new circuit for a garden office?

Usually, yes — a garden building doing real work wants its own circuit, run in armoured cable, rather than an extension lead out of the kitchen window. For a new circuit like that, an Electrical Installation Certificate is issued on completion.

Can you wire my kitchen?

Yes — appliance circuits, sockets, under-cabinet lighting, the lot. Kitchens are the most electrically dense room in the house, so it's worth planning socket positions before the units are ordered, whether you're in Barnsley or Bentley.

Is it worth adding sockets during other work?

Very much so. If we're already rewiring, building a media wall or replacing your consumer unit, extra sockets cost far less than they would as a standalone visit. Tell us everything you'd like doing and we'll quote it together.
